Becoming a Registered Surveyor

In order to protect the integrity of our land tenure system and the legal determination of boundaries, all definitions of boundary positions and preparation of the supporting legal documents are required by law to be carried out by a Registered Surveyor.

If you wish to undertake boundary (cadastral) surveys you will need to complete a four year surveying degree and have at least two years practical experience and pass the registration examinations from one of the Council of Reciprocating Surveyors Boards of Australia and New Zealand. The ACT currenlty has no board and it's Registered Surveyors are goverend by Board of Surveying and Spatial Information of NSW(BOSSI). For further information on registration in New South Wales visit www.bossi.nsw.gov.au.
